Among freeware Jdownloader is the best (Only Cons. – It sends updates so frequently, that you will feel bored)

Internet Download Manager is the best among shareware. I do not find any lackings in it. All others are far behind than IDM.

Is it only me that has a problem with IDM. After downloading and installing the IDM, my IE and Firefox started to hang and lagged. Laptop crashed at least 5 times in 3 days. Disabled the integration function, but problem still persist. Once I installed it, viola, all problems ceased to exist.
